ABOUT DR.STANLEY COREN

Dr. Stanley Coren is best known to the public for his popular books on dogs and on general psychological issues, however within the scientific world he is also a highly respected scientist.

His engaging writing style and his broad knowledge about the behavior of dogs and people have made his books for general audiences extremely popular. His books The Intelligence of Dogs, Why We Love the Dogs We Do, What Dogs Know?, How to Speak Dog, and most recently The Pawprints of History, have all reached bestseller status and have drawn rave reviews.

Roger Caras, President of the ASPCA, and himself a best selling author of dog books, notes:

Perhaps this is one reason why his books have been so popular. For example, The Intelligence of Dogs, has sold over a quarter of a million copies in its original North American edition, however it has also been translated into 26 languages other than English. His other books have also received similar international acceptance.

Coren's knowledge of dogs and clear presentation style has made him a sought after contributor to a number of national magazines. He has had a regular column in Rodale Press Pets: Part of the Family, and also in Modern Dog, and AnimalSense.

Coren's work with and knowledge of dogs has often caught the attention of the media. He has been the subject of feature articles in USA Today, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Seattle Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Dallas Times, Washington Post and others. He has even been spotlighted in full-length articles twice in People Magazine. Coren’s affable manner has also made him a popular guest with the broadcast media and he has been featured on many television programs including Oprah, Larry King Live, Dateline, 20/20, Maurie Povich, Good Morning America, Charlie Rose, the Today Show and many more. TV crews have also come from as far as Australia to film him for an ABC special program on dogs and their relationships with people, and from England to film him for a BBC special on dog behavior and communication.

Coren has published over 300 scientific reports in professional journals as well as 19 books for students and professionals. He has received many honors and awards for his scientific work, including being named as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and being designated as one of the top 2000 Scientists of the Twentieth Century by the International Biographical Society. He is also listed in Who's Who in Canada, Who's Who in Education, and International Authors and Writers Who's Who. Coren is currently a Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia.
